He is the son of the late Alva Curtis Bays and Eula Hazel [Burnette] Bays.
He died Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, West Virginia.
He was a retired coal miner and a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was a member of the Coal City Church of God, where he served as the Sunday School Superintendent. He enjoyed fishing and camping with his family. He was a United States Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 61 years, Rev. Nina Bays, on April 1, 2022; by sisters, Lois Jean Bays, Mavis Garrett, Minnie "Liz" Bays, and Mary Bays; and brothers, Wesley, Lowell, and Roger Bays.
Survivors, two daughters; two sons; three brothers; eight grand-children; and five great-grand children.
Funeral service at the Rose & Quesenberry Funeral Home Peace Chapel, Beckley, West Virginia, on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. with Bishop Clarence Lee officiating. Burial at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity, West Virginia.
