Sylvia was born in Portland, Oregon on January 22, 1924. She passed on March 31, 2022 in Salinas, California, shortly after celebrating her 98th birthday.

A great-grandmother of 2, grandmother of 6, and mother of 3 Sylvia was adulated and enjoyed by her family. With natural sales skills aided by her warm and intelligent demeanor, Sylvia was an excellent businesswoman. She began working in her brother's fruit stand as a young lady before enthusiastically entering the jewelry business, retiring well into her 80s.

"Syl" met her husband James "Jimmy" in Portland while he was stationed in the Army Air Corps at Fort Lewis. They met on a blind date when they were both 20, fell in love, and were married just two months later. After the war ended, the couple settled in Salinas, California. Sylvia worked in the jewelry store Carlyle's, owned by her husband and brother-in-law Stanley Seedman. Over 60 years of devoted marriage, Sylvia and Jimmy never stopped enjoying life. They raised three children, traveled the world and always had fun.

Sylvia's sense of style and love of fashion was unique to her and never went unnoticed. She was effortlessly classy and stylish while she sold jewelry and took care of her family. One could always find her wearing a cashmere sweater, cooking or baking something absolutely delicious. She loved being part of her Synagogue, the Temple Beth El Community, and served as a highly reliable and motivated saleswoman for the Temple's Kosher Luncheon and bake sale. Sylvia cherished her family and friends and always kept herself busy with a robust social calendar. She loved going shopping and out to lunch, and never missed a sale. One of her many talents was knitting, and her last project was a baby blanket for her great grandson, Sam (which he sleeps with nightly). In her retirement she enjoyed playing bingo, mahjong and late-night card games with her friends.

Sylvia loved her family more than anything. She was the beloved matriarch, devoted mother, doting grandmother and great grandmother. Syl was unwaveringly fair and was never mad. She was the epitome of unconditional love.

Sylvia Seedman was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jimmy and her son Michael. She is survived by her sister Edith, her children Paula (Morry) and Ronnie (Terrye), her grandchildren Joanna (Paul), Jacob, Stephanie (Jake), Michelle (Patrick), Joshua and Joel. And her great grandchildren Amayah and Samuel.

Sylvia was laid to rest on April 7, 2022 in a private ceremony surrounded by her family. We will all miss her deeply.

Donations can be made in Sylvia's name to Temple Beth El or to your favorite charity.
