Barbara Irene (Macy) Janka was born Saturday, January 17, 1925 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, to Howard Macy and Irene (Hurd) Macy and passed away Friday, April 22, 2022 at the age of 97. She was preceded in death by her brother, Wesley Macy, and sisters, Elizabeth Morgan and Lois (Parker) Sheedy.

Barbara is survived by her children, Cindy and Chris Suenram of Edmond, and their children, Charlie and Annie; Becky and Alex Jaime of Yukon and their children, Bridget and Justin Rosebeary and son Grey; Tony and Jamie Jaime, and their children, Sawyer, Eli, and Ayla; Katie Jaime and Lauren Bear; Chris and Cindy Janka of Yukon and their children, Rachel and Todd Shepherd; Kaitlyn and Jackson Witt and daughter Emersyn and soon-to-be-son, Jamison; Becca, Abby, and Mikayla Janka. Also 7 nieces, 2 nephews, and many great nieces and nephews.

She graduated from Beechwood High School in Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky in May of 1942, with a total of 21 students in her graduating class. Their family moved to Schenectady, New York right after her graduation and she began a 15-year career working for General Electric. First as a messenger and a typist in the Telegraph Dept. After her family moved to St. Louis, Missouri, in September of 1945, she continued working in the GE Lamp Division as a typist and Edit Clerk until June of 1957.

Barbara met the love of her life, Ray, on a hayride June 9, 1956, and were married the following year on July 6, 1957. They were married for 54 years, until Ray passed away in 2011 from Alzheimer's.

As a young woman, Barbara was very involved with the YMCA in her 20's and early 30's. On one occasion, she even rode a donkey to the bottom of the Grand Canyon! She was able to attend the YMCA Centennial meeting in Paris, France in August of 1955. Flying to Gander, Newfoundland, Glasgow, Scotland, Copenhagen, Denmark, and took a bus tour through Germany, Holland, Belgium and a one-night trip to London, before the YMCA meetings started in Paris.

Barbara's greatest joy, alongside her husband Ray, was her family. Raising their children, and enjoying their grandchildren through school concerts, plays, birthday parties, graduations, weddings and family gatherings. In addition to being a great cook, photographer and gardener, mom loved planning summer family vacations to National Parks, visiting family, camping, fishing, square dancing, making stained glass and woodworking projects, attending Lyric and Jewel Box Theater shows and many cruises and trips with dad.

Barbara and Ray were long time members of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, where they spent many hours volunteering in numerous capacities. Barbara enjoyed singing in the parish choir and Archdiocesan choir, playing hand bells, being involved in the women's group, quilting, bowling, crafting, and living out her faith with her family and church community.

The family is very grateful for the loving care given to Barbara by the staff of Mercy Hospice, the staff at Vitality Living Village, and the staff at St. Ann's Assisted and Independent Living.

Viewing will be Tuesday, April 26 9am-8pm, Wake at 7pm at Mercer-Adams Funeral Home Chapel. 3925 N. Asbury Ave. Bethany, Oklahoma 73008.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am on Wednesday, April 27 at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church. 7336 Britton Road, Oklahoma City, OK 73132.

Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
