BETZ RITA A. 91, passed away quietly, after a lengthy illness, at her Cypress Village residence, on August 27, 2013. She is survived by her loving children, Donald Betz of Laguna Niguel, CA and Judy Laguna Niguel, CA and Judy Dupries (Michael) of Jacksonville; grandchildren, David Betz of CA, as well as Chris (Courtney) Dupries and Katie Dupries of Jacksonville; and great-grandchildren, Ethan Dupries and Ella Hoye. Rita lived a full and active life, born in 1922 in Gallitzin, PA and subsequently married her husband, Donald A. Betz, of 65 years in 1946. They had a wonderful life together, retiring to Sawgrass from Pittsburgh, PA in 1980. Both had robust careers, Donald for 44 years with Sears, and Rita in a senior position with the Upper St. Clair school district. After 30 years of enjoyable retirement and an active social life with many great friends at Sawgrass, they relocated to Cypress Village in 2009 positioning them to meet many new friends, with her husband, Donald, passing two years ago in August, 2011. Special thanks is directed by the family to Rita's caregivers and companions at Cypress Village, in the difficult final months of her life. Special mention in particular to Dora Peters, Carla LaFortune, and Yvette Quillen, whose tireless attention to Rita was a blessing, during a particularly difficult time. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, in Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church of Ponte Vedra Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Community Hospice of NE Florida for their excellent assistance and support in the final weeks of Rita's life.
