Phyllis never met a stranger, and friends were always family. She was a strong and independent woman who loved life and enjoyed living it to the fullest. She was a maternal figure and "Nana" to many.
Phyllis was born to Ella Guy and Charles Kee of Lumberton, MS. She spent several years working various jobs, before finding her passion of teaching and education. Later in life, she attended the University of Southern Mississippi, where she received her bachelors and masters degrees. She taught special education with Hattiesburg Public School District for 18 years, a job that brought her immense joy and where she was able to touch the lives of many students. In her retirement, she returned to Longleaf Plantation in Purvis where her cooking talents served and warmed the hearts of many guests.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her mother and father, Ella Guy and Charles Kee of Lumberton, MS. She is survived by her two children; brother and sister; three grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church (103 E Hinton Avenue, Lumberton, MS, 39455) on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at 10:30 am. Burial will follow in the Lumberton City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Monday, April 25, 2022 at White Funeral Home (102 North 1st Street, Lumberton, MS, 39455).
