Served in the Civil War in the Eighteenth New York Independent Battery (Black Horse Battery) in 1864 & after receiving an honorable discharge entered Hillsdale College in Michigan in the autumn of 1866.

Married 3 Dec 1869 to Miss Amelia R. Miller, daughter of Hiram Miller and Deborah Howes Miller.

Was principal of the Warsaw Union School & Academy.
