Fred then worked as a writer and editor and provided public relations support for the American Automobile Association and the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce. He was awarded the Golden Pen award from the McGraw Hill Company, where he also worked as a writer and editor.
In the 1990s, as a civilian, Fred worked at the Pentagon and Navy Annex where he was a leader in the Marine Corps Division of Public Affairs. He managed multiple information branches, including Marines Magazine and the www.usmc. mil website. He received recognition as one of the fastest typists in the world.
After leaving the Marines for the second time, Fred married Susan Colinan of Rhode Island, and moved to Orlando, Florida, where he worked for the Florida Department of Bank and Finance. Fred was actively involved for more than 20 years with their Giant and Miniature Schnauzer showing and breeding program at Carry On Schnauzers.
Fred was known and loved by many in the Orlando area where he supported the Corporal Larry E. Smedley Marine Corps League Detachment 64 and was the quartermaster for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2093, and an active member of the American Legion Mt. Dora Post 35.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by brothers Charles Carr and Gene Porter, and a sister, Patricia Carr Moore.
