Daily Press, Newport News, Virginia, Saturday, May 19, 1934, page 2: Mrs. Anne Olivia Wiley, 62, widow of Frank S. Wiley, slain by bandits in his filling station near Nansemond bridge July 19, last year, died yesterday afternoon of asphyxiation in her home at 62 Ash Avenue.
Her daughter, Miss Emily O. Wiley, teacher in the Walter Reed School, found her body on the floor of a gas-filled bathroom when she returned from school shortly after 4 P.M. There was nobody else at the home. Neighbors were summoned and Roy H. Belote, city fireman living across the street, called the fire department's inhalator squad, which labored more than an hour without success.
Dr. A. A. Creecy arrived and pronounced her dead. The death was declared by officials to be suicide. Mrs. Wiley had been in poor health for some time and she was said to have been affected seriously by the death of her husband, and had been under physicians care for the past years.
She was known to many in Newport News. She served as camp mother at Lingernook, Y.W.C.A. camp near Buckroe for the past eight years, and was preparing to return there June 18.
Surviving are her daughter, Miss Emily O. Wiley, and two sisters, Mrs. Joseph W. Glenn of Baltimore, and Mrs. Alexander Oberry, of Solomons, Md.
Funeral arrangements were decompile last night pending the arrival of the two sisters.
