Steve was born in Henderson on February 12, 1967, to surviving parents Johnny and Charlotte Bacon. He and his younger sister, Aimee Harnage, were raised in Onton, Kentucky which is where his love of the outdoors and his community began.
Steve started working at an early age with local farmers, then set about driving cattle cross country. By the late 1980s, he had received the title of "Journeyman" as a Tool & Die Maker, which is the career he retired from in 2017 due to difficult medical conditions.
On New Year's Eve, twenty-four years ago, Steve married the love of his life Lorna Ford, the daughter of Glenda Nance and William Ford. Lorna brought with her their daughter Shyanne, whom he claimed as his own from day one.
Steve became a first responder in Webster County and then the Assistant Fire Chief of Slaughters, Kentucky. These roles to his community and being outdoors were truly his passions. He loved hunting, fishing, and sharing his knowledge with others, especially youths.
Steve's strong will to survive, and probably a bit of stubbornness, carried him through many health hardships including kidney failure, heart failure, and a stroke. He was surrounded by his family, who will miss him dearly when he, unfortunately, ran out of "medical miracles".
We will be having a celebration of life at the Slaughters Fire Station on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at 6 pm. All are welcome to attend.
Steve will come to rest in Onton Cemetery on Friday, April 29th at 10 am. Friends and family are welcome.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Slaughters Fire Department.
This was written with a heavy heart by his daughter.
"Rest well Dad, I love you."
