Mrs. Myrta Briggs, 93, a long-time resident of Linton and vicinity, died in a Bismarck hospital at 5 P.M. Thursday, Aug. 31. Funeral services were held Sunday from the Linton Methodist Church, with the Rev. James MacKay officiating. The Kraft Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. She was buried in the Linton Cemetery besides the grave of her late husband, Leon T. Briggs. Pallbearers were Alex McCulley, Jim Postle, K. A. Meier, John James, Fred Petrie and Henry Heyerman, all of Linton. Mrs. Briggs was born at Iowa Falls, Iowa, Sept. 20, 1867, a daughter of Henry and Jane (Rockwell) Cooper. She grew to womanhood in Iowa and married Frank A. Hoyt in about 1887. In 1905 she was married for the second time to Leon T. Briggs. The couple lived in Hardin County, Iowa, for a short time and then came to Linton, also in 1905. They lived here six months and then took up a homestead in Omio Township, east of Linton, and lived there until they moved to town in 1925, where she made her home until she went to the home for the aged at Wilton about four years ago. Mr. Briggs died Jan. 29, 1937, at the age of 89. She was a member of the Linton Methodist Church, the Women's society of Christian Service and served many years as a Sunday School and music teacher. She leaves one son, Bert E. Hoyt of Raped City, SD. There are three grandchildren. Her son and two granddaughters, Helen and Muriel Hoyt, were here for the funeral. Her grandson, Bert Hoyt Jr. Lives in Texas.
