Actress. She was best known to film viewers for her roles as less than likable young ladies in both "The Parent Trap," (1961) and "Auntie Mame." (1958) She graduated as an English major from Smith College in 1956 with an offer of employment at Time-Life, but later turned to acting. She made her acting debut on the television series "Tales of the 77th Bengal Lancers" in 1956. She continued in television throughout the rest of the 20th Century with appearances in such series as "Cheyenne," "21 Beacon Street," "Maverick," "The Beverly Hillbillies," "The Trials of O'Brien," "Marcus Welby, M.D.," "Barney Miller," "Trapper John, M.D.," and "Cheers." In 1957, she made her film debut in "The Garment Jungle." Besides "Auntie Mame" and "The Parent Trap," she went on to appear in such films as "Tarzan, the Ape Man," (1959) "Spartacus," (1960) "Goodby Charlie," (1964) "The War Wagon," (1967) "I Wonder Who's Killing Her Now," (1975) and "The Parent Trap." (1998) She also used the skills that she learned at Smith as a writer of three novels, a book reviewer for the Los Angeles Times, and host of the 1967 ABC celebrity interview show "Dateline: Hollywood." She was also a regular panelist on the popular game show "What's My Line" during its revision in the late 1960s.
