24th New York Artillery. John Brooks enlisted on August 28, 1862, aged 18 years, at Leicester, Livingston County, New York. He mustered in as private on August 30, 1862, to serve three years, He was captured at Plymouth, North Caroline on April 20, 1864. He died on or about December 1, 1864, as a prisoner at the P.O.W. prison at Florence, South Carolina.
