Mr. Jewel Clayton (J.C.) Byrnes, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at his home in Winnsboro, Texas. He was born on March 3, 1935 in Fort Necessity, Louisiana to the late Tom Gilbert Byrnes and Alice Bessonette Byrnes; and is preceded in death by his brothers Philip and Tom, and sisters Mary, Margie and Sue

He is survived by his sisters, Lois Jean Byrnes Hitt and Joyce Stephens McCarthy of Louisiana, his loving wife of 62 years, Rita Byrnes; sons, James Clayton Byrnes and wife Kelli, Christopher Wade Byrnes and fiancé Leslie Bandy, Jonathan Daniel Byrnes and wife Julie; daughter, Amy Elizabeth Byrnes Gearner wife of John Gearner; seven grandchildren, Adriana, Jeff, Ryan, Tyson, Olivia, Jakob, and Carson; and three great granddaughters, Karsen, Rhyann, and Wesley. J.C. will also be missed by his dear pets, Cooper and Chi Chi.

J.C. earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Louisiana Monroe and his Master of Science from Texas A&M Commerce. He was a man of many professions including federal agent for the IRS, steel mill inspector, farmer, dairy farmer, insurance agent, real estate agent, and developer. J.C. was a decorated Marine Corp veteran of the Korean War as well as a member of the American Legion. He was a longtime member of Pine Street Baptist Church and the Pine Street Choir, which he loved. His favorite hobbies were studying the Bible, fishing, gun collecting, car trading, and politics.

A visitation will be held on Friday, May 6, 2022 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Beaty Funeral Home 816 W. Broadway Winnsboro, TX. Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Charles Ethridge conducting. Interment will be at Clearwater Cemetery with Jeff Byrnes, Jacob Byrnes, Carson Byrnes, Ryan Gearner, Tyson Gearner, Ben Weems serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are the 2nd Milers Sunday School Class of Pine Street Baptist Church.
