Dave was born in Alamo, Tennessee to Tom and Ruby Buckingham. He graduated from Humboldt High School in 1958. He joined the United States Navy in 1959. Dave proudly served his country and spent most of his time stationed offshore from Japan. Dave met the love of his life, Donyell, in 1963 and they got married November 6, 1964. They were married for almost 51 years until Donyell's death in 2015. Dave worked as a salesman for Hi-Line for 24 years and retired in 2002. Post retirement, he worked part-time for several years at Enterprise Rent-A-Car. Dave was a proud member of Goodman Oaks Church of Christ.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Ruby Buckingham, his wife, Donyell C. Buckingham, three brothers Charlie, Jerry and Keith and four sisters Toby, June, Kay and Linda. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Ty and Freda Buckingham of Sardis, daughter Kecia Buckingham Coleman of Southaven, and son and daughter-in-law Sean and Lara Buckingham of Hernando; his nine grandchildren, as well as six great-grandchildren.

Dave will be remembered for his one-of-a-kind personality. He never met a stranger. He loved his family dearly, especially his precious wife, that he affectionately called "Buggs". Dave loved Alabama football, Elvis Presley, and the game of golf. He could make up a song for any occasion and would sing these songs for anyone, especially his doctors and nurses. He gave funny nicknames to pretty much every person he knew. Dave was a good husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. His death has left a hole in the heart of every person that knew and loved him.
