Son of Harbard Funston and Larus Colene Osborne Johnson.

PLEASANTVILLE, OHIO - Eric Eugene Johnson, 64, passed away Friday, April 15, 2022 under Hospice care after a courageous, lifelong battle with mental illness and cancer. To honor his memory and lay him to rest, a graveside and burial will take place at 3 o'clock on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion.

Eric was born in Marion County on December 25, 1957, the second son of the late Harbard "Rock" Johnson and Larus Colene Johnson. He is preceded in death by both parents and his brother, John Milton Johnson.

Surviving are two sisters, Elizabeth "Liz" Carroll and Emma Caroline "Cissy"Kinney.

During his lifetime, he was a Boy Scout, a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marion, a paperboy, played youth baseball, wrote poetry, and was published in the Marion Star, served his country with pride in the Navy, played JV/HS football, rode motorcycles, enjoyed cooking, watching racing on TV, a voracious reader on a variety of topics of interest and a beautiful son, grandson, nephew, uncle, cousin, and brother… with a most humble heart.

He joined the Navy in high school and was stationed off shore in Italy from January 1975 until July 1976. After returning home, he gained his GED and worked alongside his father, "Rock", at Johnson's Shoe Shop.

His fondest of memories were of annual mountain trips with his parents and Aunt "Siggie", where he enjoyed solitude, trout fishing, in and among, majestic natural mountain streams. He also looked forward to the many trips to visit with family at Liz's home and special trips to the beach with Moma and Liz's family, where many of us would gather together to celebrate his homecomings. He often talked about the adventures of his beloved cat and companion, "Shadows", which he dearly loved.

The family would like to extend special words of thanks to the community of Pleasantville, Ohio. These are the people who were his family when we were not present. These were the people who engaged in conversation and treated Eric like their own family when we were not present. He loved his town he lived in and we thank his friends who saw our brother as their brother, son and friend.
