16 year old honor student at Martin Luther King College Prep High School. She performed with a group for President Barrack Obama Inaugural. She was with a group of students seeking shelter from the rain when a gunman open fire striking her and other students. Hadiya was on the school volleyball team as well as a majorette in the band that took the trip to Washington. A promising life taken by yet another gunman. May her memory live forever........
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints on snow
I am the sun on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain
When u awaken n the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight
I am the soft stars that shine at night
Do not stand at my grave and cry
I am not there; I did not die

Daughter of Nathaniel and Cleopatra Cowley-Pendleton and sister of Nathaniel Jr., she was apart of a loving family. Thanks Dr William Mcdonald for your insight and remarks as we pause to remember one of our rising stars. President and Mrs. Obama issued a statement expressing their thoughts and prayers to the family as this teen's death hits home as this senseless act was near the President's personal Chicago home in Kenwood and as the adminstration fights to get gun controls in place in veiw of the recent shootings across the country. Hadiya's life will serve as a wake-up call to action because we can not continue down this same path. May her smile and spirit bridge the gap between where we are and where we are going. A march and candlelight vigil was held in addition to a special viewing service held Feburary 8, 2013 at Calahan Funeral Home located 7030 South Halsted Street. First Lady Michelle Obama, Gov. Pat Quinn joined thousands for the Celebration Of Life Services on Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 9a.m. from the santuary of Greater Harvest Baptist Church located at 5141 South State Street. The Family's pastor Dr. Courtney Maxwell of The Greater Deliverance Temple Officating.
