Zena Odessa Wiggings Edwards, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 10, 2008 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was a resident of Covenant Columns Manor under the great care of Mrs. Anna Pitt and staff.

Zena was one of six children born to the late Arthur and Gertrude Wiggins on September 12, 1925 in Plymouth, NC.

During her early years in Plymouth, Zena attended the public schools and graduated from Plymouth High School. She then attended Hampton Institute for two years.

Zena married Alfred W. Edwards on January 29, 1949 and from this union four children were born.

The Edwards family attended Providence Park Baptist Church, where Zena was very active in many organizations. She was the founder of the Golden Circle Ministry, an organization that was very near and dear to her heart.

Zena was retired from MCV Hospital where she had worked for 30 years and made many friends.

Zena leaves to cherish her memory a devoted husband, Alfred W. Edwards, Sr. of Richmond, VA; one daughter, Tanya Hart (Clarence Jr.) of Richmond, VA; three sons, Alfred Jr. (Geraldine) of Richmond, VA, Zeno (Judy) of Charlotte, NC, and Warren Edwards of Mitchellville, MD; six grandchildren (affectionately known to them as Mama Zena), Clinton and Gerard Edwards, Nicole Powers-Jones, Yvonne Cialini, Jasmine Blount, and DeAndre Taylor; one sister, Mary Boland of St. Albans, NY; three brothers-in-law, Henry House of Richmond, VA, William Edwards of Washington, DC, and Dr. Rondle Edwards of Richmond, VA; one sister-in-law, Mary Edwards of Washington, DC, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Remains rested at March Funeral Home, 2110 E. Laburnum Ave., where viewing was held on Tuesday, January 15, 2008, from 9am to 8pm, and where family received friends from 6pm to 7pm. Funeral service, 12 noon, Wednesday, January 16, 2008, at Providence Park Baptist Church, 468 E. Ladies Mile Rd. Rev. Jerome Ross officiated. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery.
