Wednesday, July 11, 2012. His friends and family were by his side
as he drifted off to be with the Lord. He was born to James (Jim)
and Maxine Beckett, of Pickaway, on August 7, 1945. He resided in
the Greensboro, N.C., area with his son, daughter and grandkids
during the past three years.
After graduating from Union High School with the Class of 1963, he
relocated to Roanoke, Va., where he graduated from National
Business College before beginning a successful career in sporting
goods. He eventually started and operated his own sporting goods
business for the remainder of his career before retiring back in
the Pickaway area. Most important to Lloyd was being a loving
father, who enjoyed spending time with his family, coaching
baseball, hiking and hunting. Whether it was giving blood to the
Red Cross or donating his time in the community, Lloyd was a
generous and giving person.
He was a faithful member of Cave Spring United Methodist Church in
Roanoke for many years and a great Christian example to his family.
He is survived by his children, Chad James Beckett, and Kristin
Lynn Beckett; and grandchildren, Rhythm Beckett-Cook, Nausicaa
Beckett-Palma and Ryan James Beckett. He also leaves his brother,
Dale Beckett; sister, Nancy Beckett-Webb; and many cousins, nieces
and nephews.
The Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, July 22, 2012, at
Groves Funeral Home, Highway 3 E, Union, WV 24983. Friends and
family will be received from 1 to 2 p.m. with the service beginning
at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider
donations to The Alzheimer's Foundation of America (www.ALZFDN.org)
or St. Jude Children's Hospital (www.STJUDE.org).
