John P. Bane, 75, lifelong Ashland resident and business owner, passed away peacefully Monday at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, with his loving family by his side.

Born in Ashland, he was son of the late Martin and Florence Gallagher Bane.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Martin Bane.

John is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sarah "Sally" Bane, Ashland; daughter Rhoda (Scott) Heiser, Center Valley; son John (Yesenia) Bane, Harrisburg; daughter Maeve (Jimmy) O'Donnell, Harrisburg; grandchildren Erin, Margot, and Quinn, as well as nieces and nephews.

John was a 1964 Ashland High School graduate, and later graduated from Bloomsburg University. John spent most of his professional life as a self-employed insurance agent. He was involved in numerous local civic and social organizations, and he also sat on several boards. John had a profound affection for the Safety Patrol, and he enthusiastically inducted hundreds of people, nationwide.

John enjoyed many summers at the Jersey Shore as a young man, and later in life enjoyed vacations with family and friends who are family. He hated hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors. John found great joy in telling stories and re-living memories of time spent with lifelong friends. John was discretely generous to those who needed help. He was an overall good guy.

In all of John's lifelong accomplishments, his greatest success was his family. He will be missed by his devoted wife, children, and grandchildren. He was a protector and a provider.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Tuesday, May 17th at Saint Charles Borromeo Church, Ashland with Rev. Brian Miller, Pastor, as the celebrant. Friends are invited to his visitation at the church on Tuesday from 9am until time of Mass. Interment in St. Mauritius Cemetery will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations in John's name to the Ashland Free Public Library at 1229 Centre Street, Ashland, PA 17921.

Thomas M. Sullivan Funeral Home Inc., Girardville is in charge of the arrangements.
