Carl Ferguson, 67-year-old retired educator and a Lewis County landowner who lived on Cabin Creek, died at 1:30 a.m. Thursday at Hayswood Hospital after one month as a patient there. Death was attributed to a series of strokes.
Mr. Ferguson taught school in his native Lewis County for 40 years and then served as principal of the Rectorville School. He had headed the Mason County school three years when he retired four years ago.
It was shortly after his retirement that Mr. Ferguson suffered the first of three storkes. The last seizure, on February 28, left him in a comatose condition and little hope had been held for his recovery since that time.
Mr. Ferguson was born in Lewis County on Januaury 18, 1896 and had lived his entire life on Cabin Creek. His parents were the late William A and Joan Truesdell Ferguson, both natives of Lewis County
He married the former Georgia Browning in 1932. They had no children of their own but were the parents of a foster-son, Carl Denver Stanfield, whom they loved as their very own.
Member of Methodist Church, was a World War I veteran and belonged to the American Legion Post in Maysville.
Survivors include his wife, foster-son and one brother Wilbur Ferguson, who is a teacher of Tollesboro High School and has been an educator for 43 years.
