Saturday, December 30, 1916, page 4
Mrs M J Thomas of this city who has been in the Kellum Hospital in Richmond, for thirteen months, died there on Thursday from cancer, after much suffering.
The remains arrived here this morning on No 3 and were met by a number of ladies and were taken to her late home on Temple Streer, near Second Avenue, and on Sunday afternoon after funeral services at the Central Baptist Church, at 2 o'clock, the burial will be at Hill Top Cemetery.
Altho the news of the death of Mrs Thomas was received here with much regret, her death was not unexpected as her friends felt that she was critically ill with no hope for a cure of her disease.
Mrs Thomas was born near Charleston in 1840. She married the late George Thomas, who died in this city in July, 1907. She leaves two sons, George and Lige, of this city and other relatives in Kanawha county.
The deceased was a charter member of the Central Baptist Church and a lady much loved and respected by her acquaintances. More than a year ago she was stricken with cancer and altho she spent a large sum for so-called treatment, she was not benefitted.
The funeral services will be conducted by Rev H P Hackney at the hour above mentioned.
