He owned an orchard for 40 years until he and many others were bought out by the Government for the Sunflower Ordnance Plant at Prairie Center (near Olathe) before WWII. He wrote of having gooseberries and other fruits to put up. He primarily seems to have been a carpenter, a cabinet maker, and a builder. He retired at age 90.
