Pete A. Akers, age 71, of Hilliard, Florida passed away June 10, 2021, surrounded by his friends and family. He was born June 17, 1949, in Oakhill, West Virginia to Frances and Bedo Akers. Pete was the 7th out of 11 children and was raised in Oakhill, West Virginia with his 10 siblings. Pete decided to move to northeast Florida after serving in the military, this is where he met the love of his life, Charles Gardner. They adopted two daughters Miranda (Jesse) Merritt, and Terrah Gardner, and eventually welcomed his first grandson, Jackson Merritt. His legacy will be remembered through many friends and family, who loved him dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bedo and Frances Akers; brother, Roscoe (Geraldine) Akers; sisters, Annadean (Bill) Parker, Della (Carl) Akers, and Rosemary (Jim) Rogers.

Pete is survived by his loving husband of 38 years, Charles Gardner; daughters, Miranda (Jesse) Merritt, Terrah Gardner; grandson, Jackson Merritt; brothers, Walter (Caryl-deceased) Akers, Ira (Loretta) Akers, Benny (Tammy) Akers, Joe (Sue) Akers; sisters, Gennevieve (Richard-deceased) Dome, Nina (Tom-deceased) Medford; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Pete's Life will be on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Nassau Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Jones Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Nassau Funeral Home, 541720 US-1, Callahan, Florida 32011
