Ludwig Tieck was a German poet, writer, editor and translator of the Romantic period. He also published under the pseudonyms Peter Lebrecht and Gottlieb FΓ€rber.
Well-known works by TIECK are, for example, the novels "The Story of Mr. William Lovell" (1795/96) and "Franz Sternbald's Walks" (1798), the novella "The Country Society" (1824) or the fairy tale "Puss in Boots "(1797)," Ritter Blaubart "(1797) and" Der blonde Eckbert "(1797).
In addition to the German version of Cervantes' Don Quixote, he was also responsible for broadcasting all of Shakespeare's dramas. Together with his friend and fellow poet Friedrich Schlegel, he translated the texts from English into German, thus opening up a veritable treasure trove of new stage plays for contemporary theater. The so-called Schegel Tieck translation is still considered a classic today and forms the basis of many Shakespeare editions and performances.
