Rachel LouEller “Lula” Bryant Hunley, 94 of LaFollette passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at LaFollette Nursing Home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend to many.

She was long-time member of Victory Baptist Church and loved the Lord and Savior with all her being.

Rachel was born and raised in Speedwell, TN during a time when life was hard, and money was scarce. She carried those life lessons with her throughout her adulthood, helping others when they needed help.

She was preceded in death by her parents Oscar F. Bryant and Sarah Jane (Reed) Bryant; husband James Wright “Red” Hunley; siblings Lillie Mae Longmire, Eva McCulley, Maudie E. Smith, Edgar M. Bryant, and several half siblings; nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She is survived by daughters Patricia Hunley Branam & Gary Comer, Linda M. Williford & husband Bill; grand children Lonnie Dewayne Branam, Jamie Denise Branam & Russell Stooksbury, James Williford & wife Mary, Angela Kay Williford Salyer & husband David; great grandchildren Issac Russell Stooksbury, Jay Lynn LouEller Stooksbury, Rachel Branham, Tyler Williford, Haley Williford, Samantha Williford, Rex Williford; many loving nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Visitation will be 3-5 PM Saturday, January 19, 2018 in the chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home followed by funeral service at 5 PM with Rev. Howard Goins and David Goins officiating.

Friends and family will meet 1:15 PM Sunday, January 20, 2018 at Martin Wilson Funeral Home for the 2 PM interment in Victory cemetery.

Rachel L Bryant Hunley was born in a small community of East Tennessee called Speedwell. Around the age of 1 or 2 her father passed away leaving her mother to raise 5 children on her on. Life was hard and Rachel loved to tell stories of the hard work and tough times that the family endured durning those early years. She and her family moved to LaFollette, TN durning her early teens, where she would walk to school to optain an 3 and 4th grade education which she was very proud of She began work at an early age working for a factory in the town of LaFollette, and saved up enough money to purchase a small piece of property and build a home for her momma whom she loved dearly. Shortly afterwards she meet and married Her husband of 60 years until his death in 2003 They moved a few times obtaining employment in Michigan and Ohio where Rachel worked at a candy company and at a factory that made airplane parts. she loved to tell stories of her time at the candy factory. But she dearly missed her momma while she lived away from her and eviduenly came back home to be with her. At the age of 31 Rachel and James took in a baby girl to raise and love as their own. At the age of 40 her mother passed away and at the age of 41 she gave birth to her only child a baby girl whom she loved dearly. Rachel spent the next 30 years or more as a loving housewife working in the garden, tobacco fields, and keeping up with her family. She took on the respondsibility of raising her two grandchildren while her daughter worked. She loved the Lord with all her heart, loved attending every church service she could. She taught sunday school and loved to play the guitar and sing in church and even taught herself how to play a few songs on the piano. She lived a very strick Christan life refusing to partake of anything she thought was wrong and encourage others not to do the things she thought to be sinful. In 2003 her world turned around with the death of her beloved husband and progression of her Alzhemiers diease. She was able to live independently for a few more years with the help of her family. then she began living with someone which was very difficult for her as she had been independent her entire life. as time went on and because of unforseen and unfortunate changes in her living arrangments she found herself in the nursing home unable to communicate well with others or do anything for herself. She lived there the remaining days of her precious life.
