Lia graduated from Lakeview HS and Northern Illinois University and began her teaching career in special education for the blind in Gary, Indiana in the late 1970's. Always fiercely independent and adventurous, in the early 1980's she saw a job posting in Hawaii, interviewed over the phone, packed up her stuff and moved to the Big Island of Hawaii. Except for a few years working in California teaching the teachers of blind students, she has been a resident of paradise in Hawaii and teacher of blind students until she retired last December. Her other love was animals, particularly cats, and she recently cared for 13 cats, some inside and some outside.
Lia's Celebration of Life, a party was held at Kapiolana Park, near her favorite beach - Kaimana Beach in Honolulu, Hawaii.
