Johnny passed away Saturday May 21st, 2022, in Tyler Texas. He was born November 16th, 1939, in Hawkins, Texas to the late Rufus Clay Holmes and Minnie Farris (Snider) Holmes. Mr. Holmes graduated from Hawkins High School in 1964. He then served his country by enlisting in the United States Army. After his service, Johnny was employed at Carrier, Tyler, and then at Kelly Springfield Tire Company in Tyler, until he retired in 1996. Johnny was a member of Damascus Baptist Church, in Lindale. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and hunting. Johnny was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 15. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Daniel Paul Holmes in 2000.
Johnny is survived by his wife of 59 years Doris Holmes of New Harmony; son, Mark and Susan Holmes of Lindale; two daughters, April Holmes of New Harmony and Terri Holmes of Lindale; five brothers, Gerald Holmes of Longview, David and Cindy Holmes of Killeen, Stephen Glenn Holmes of Hawkins, Pat and Cindy Holmes of Hallsville, and Joe Holmes of Hawkins; two sisters, Mary Jean Ware of Pearland, and Rose Markham of Texarkana; 3 grandchildren, Jonathan Holmes, Carmen Lowe and Matthew Stroud of Lindale; and numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family members.
Serving as pallbearers will be Pat Holmes, Joe Holmes, Stephen Glenn Holmes, Matt Holmes, John Paul Smith, and Kent Markham
