Mr. Albro was the husband of the late Louise E. (DeBlois) Albro who preceded him in death in 2001 and the son of the late Middletown Police Chief Arthur A. and Martha A. Albro.
He was a 10th generation descendent of John Albro who arrived in Boston from Ipswich, England in 1634 on the ship "Francis." John came to Aquidneck Island in 1638 with the founders of Portsmouth.
Mr. Albro held various jobs through the years, including the elected office of Middletown Town Sergeant, working at the Herreshoff boat yard and the Naval Torpedo Stations, followed by 10 years as a farm manager and 19 years with the former Newport Electric Corporation, retiring in 1975 as an engineer in the power house.
In retirement, Mr. Albro worked part-time as a carpenter and traveled extensively with his wife in New England. Mr. Albro was a Life Member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed competitive shooting, hunting, genealogy, and working with his tools. He was an active communicant of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Portsmouth and served two terms as a member of the Vestry.
He leaves three children Linda J. Burkitt of Middletown, RI, Col. William A. Albro (USAF Ret) of Olympia, WA and Phyllis L. Armbrust of Chula Vista, CA; five grandchildren ... ; ten great-grandchildren ... ; three great-great grandchildren ... and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Ruth Peckham and Vera Larsen.
His funeral will be held on Monday, February 5, 2007, at 10 a.m. in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport. Burial will be in St. Mary's Churchyard in Portsmouth.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, February 4, 2007, from 2-4pm in the Memorial Funeral Home.
