Hobert Jackson Grant, 93, of Stuart, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2006, at McAlester Regional Health Center. Born May 20, 1913, in White Chimney, he was the son of James Jackson and Clara Oliver Grant. He grew up and attended school at White Chimney and later married Pearl Buck on Aug. 22, 1938, in McAlester. He worked for a number of years as a rancher and farmer in the Stuart area and had retired from Hughes County as a motor grader operator. He was a member of Stuart First Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, playing dominoes in downtown Stuart with numerous friends. He also enjoyed playing and watching baseball games. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a resident of Stuart and passed away at the age of 93 at the McAlester hospital. Survivors include two daughters and son-in-law, Leota Bernard, of Stuart, and Velta Pearline and Richard Burbach, Lavon, Texas; four grandchildren and spouses, Lee and Tanya Bernard, of Stuart, Alan and Tammie Wright, Wylie, Texas, Vincent and LaTeisha Wright, of Haskell, and Lynn and Sara Wright, Austin, Texas. Also, six great-grandchildren, Melody Bernard, of Stuart, Nicolas and Alyssa Wright, Wylie, Texas, Haylee and Caylen Wright, of Haskell, and Sterling Jackson Wright, Austin, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Edie Grant, of Wardville, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Clara Grant; his wife, Pearl Grant; a granddaughter, Shannon Bernard; son-in-law, Ledon Bernard; five brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, at Stuart First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Brannon and the Rev. Bill Clark officiating. Burial will be at White Chimney Cemetery east of Stuart. Pallbearers will be Alan Wright, Vincent Wright, Lynn Wright, Lee Bernard, Nicolas Wright and Howard Gibson. Honorary pallbearers will be Clovis Fannin, J.W. Simpson, Paul Grant and Jack Harrison. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.
