Mary Jane Stone was the daughte of Sarah Finnell and Berry Stone. Berry Stone wore many hats. He was a farmer, school teacher, county clerk, orator, and State Legislator for three term (1841-42-45). Mary Jane was 1 of 12 children born to the Stone family.

Mary Jane married Joab Mahlon Morton at age 22, on August 16, 1855 in Powell County, Kentucky. They too, had 12 children:

*Sarah Elizabeth Morton who died at age 18, was their
1st born.

*Nancy Mariah Morton Benningfield

*Richard B. Morton

*Louesa "Lou" Morton Garrett Faulkner

*Jincy Thomas Morton Forkner

*John W. Morton

*Margaret C. Morton Benningfield

*James Mahlon Morton

*Green Berry Morton

*Mary Ellen Morton Combs

*Emma Lindsey Morton Stone
