Lifelong Islander traveled around the world

Dominick Hugo Ciaburri of South Beach, a lifelong Staten Islander, died yesterday in St. Vincents Hospital, West Brighton, from cancer complications. He was 76.
He was born and raised in Midland Beach and moved to South Beach in the early 1960s.
Mr. Ciaburri attended St. Margaret Mary's School, Midland Beach. In 2002 he worked for the Toto's Ice and Coal Co. in
New Dorp.
He served in the Merchant Marines fron 1947 to 1957 and went on to work for the City Department of Marine and Aviation at the Staten Island Ferry as a marine oiler, retiring in 1987.
"He always bragged about traveling around the world," said his son Rocco Ciaburri. "He had nine trips around the world."
Mr. Ciaburri enjoyed cooking, eating, fishing and camping with his family in the upstate New York and New Jersey.
"He loved eggplant parmigiana," said his son. "Not so much
cooking it but eating it."
Mr. Ciaburri was a member of the Midland Beach Chapter of AARP and the Marine and Aviation Anchor Club.
In addition to his wife, Antonina, of 52 years, Mr. Ciaburri is survived by his son Rocco; two brothers, Anthony and Salvatore, a sister, Josephine Martucci, and four granddaughters. The funeral will be Tuesday with a service at 10 a.m. in the A. Azzara Funeral Home, South Beach. Burial will be in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
