James Russell Hardie, 79, of Bennington passed away peacefully on Friday May 20, 2022 at the Gateway Home in Attica with his loving wife by his side. He was born on November 24, 1942 in Warsaw to the late Elmer and Elizabeth (Beaver) Hardie.

Jim grew up on the family farm in Dutch Flats, Varysburg, graduated from Notre Dame High School in Batavia, NY in 1960 and received a business degree from Alfred State in 1962. He served in the U.S. Army in signals intelligence from 1962-1964. He built an insurance agency business, Austin Hardie Wise Agency, in Attica, serving as President. The agency then became part of Tompkins Insurance Agencies in which he worked until his retirement. Jim loved spending time with his wife Betty, his children and grandchildren and his brothers and sisters. A lifelong resident of Wyoming County, Jim was passionate about serving his community. One of his favorite events of the year was attending and supporting the annual Wyoming County Fair 4-H auction. During his lifetime he served his community through many organizations including the Wyoming County IDA, the Wyoming County Hospital Foundation, the Attica Lions Club, and the United Way of Wyoming County.

He is survived by his loving wife Betty (Eybers) Hardie; children Mary Beth (Rick) Crago, Sharon Hardie, Michael (Nancy) Hardie, and Megan O'Hagan; Grandchildren, Abbey Crago, Jordan, Haley and Maya Hardie, Carys, Camryn, and Sean O'Hagan; His siblings Robert (Janet) Hardie, Sue (Don) Townsend, Judy Hardie, Donna (Andy) Fay, Nick (Kathy) Hardie, Betsy (Chris) Van Son and Bill (Mary Beth) Hardie.

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday May 24, 2022 from 3:00-7:00PM at Marley Funeral Home, LLC. 135 Main St. Attica, New York 14011. An 11:00AM Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday May 25th at Sts. Joachim & Anne Parish, 50 East Ave. in Attica. James will be laid to rest in Forest Hill Cemetery.
