Obituary from Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, Shreveport LA:
Herman transitioned from this life Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at his home in Keithville, Louisiana. He was born July 15, 1940, in Mansfield, Louisiana to Mary J. Thomas and Willie Houston.

Herman graduated from Desoto High School where he competed in football and track. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and spent four (4) years serving his country. While serving, he was able to see and enjoy many parts of the world and enjoy other cultures.

Upon completion of his military service, Herman moved to Portland, Oregon. He became a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. He attended Portland State University on the G.I. bill and earned a B.S. degree in Accounting and Business. He trained and worked as an Internal Revenue Agent. Following his time with the IRS, he became a Small Business Development Counselor at Portland Community College in Portland and retired as Small Business Development Counselor at LSUS in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Herman loved tennis, drawing and painting, and working on his lawn and garden. He was a consummate student, always reading and debating and seeking to learn new things. He loved spending time with his family. Most important to Herman though, was his love and relationship with God, where he sought to do His will on earth.

Upon relocating to Louisiana in 1998, he united with the New Hill Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, Keithville, LA. Herman remained a faithful member until death.

Herman leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 56 years, Lessie Carter Houston; two sons, Bryan and Diarmuid; one daughter, Charmayne; four grandchildren, LaToya, LaShay, Antonio and Zummie; six great grands, one sister, Billie J. Bennett; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

The support of family, (especially our church family), D. S. T. Sorority, Inc., all of our friends and acquaintances is treasured beyond measure during this difficult time. We appreciate all of you.

Interment will take place at Centuries Memorial Park, on Mansfield Road in Shreveport, LA. The family will host a Memorial Celebration of Herman's life July 16, 2022.
