DUNCAN, Mrs. Mattie died at the family home here Tuesday March 11, after several months illness, her condition has been rapidly growing worse for the past two weeks. Mrs. Duncan was before her marriage Miss. Mattie Shannon. She was married to E. J. Duncan on Oct. 18, 1894 in Perry County by M. A. Tubbs JP, and to this union eleven children were born, with one son dying in infancy. Surviving are Mrs. Grace Greenway of Tom`s Creek; Chester Duncan of Akron Ohio; Will Duncan of Roan`s Creek; Mrs. Louise Heath of same Creek; Mrs. Velma DePriest; Mrs. Alma Marrs; Mrs. Opal Mayhue; Lillian Duncan; Fred Duncan; and Joe Duncan of Old Hickory. Mrs. Duncan a life long resident of Perry Co., with the exception of one year in Florida. Her presence here was over a pleasure and her departure has left our hearts heavy. Her life was one of service to her family. She numbered in friends by her acquaintances and every one join the children in sorrowing the loss of mother, burial was at Britts Chapel Wednesday March 12. (Perry Countian March 21, 1930).
