Richard (Dick) Henry Aaker was born October 25, 1940, in Vienna, SD to Clarence and Elvira (Steen) Aaker. He lived on the family farm near Vienna until he was 8 when his family moved to Athol, SD to run a local grocery store. He attended rural country school in Athol and was part of the first graduating class of Northwestern in 1958. He was quite the athlete and loved playing basketball and baseball during high school.
On June 26, 1960, he married in Athol, SD and to this union, five children were born. He worked for Kegler Elevator Company in Ashton as well as local farmers in the Athol and Ashton area from 1958-1968. He then started his career with South Dakota Wheat Growers in Aberdeen from 1968-1972 and Frankfort from 1972 until his retirement in 2005. He loved working at the Elevator and interacting with the local farmers. Dick also proudly served on the Frankfort Volunteer Fire Department, Frankfort City Council and served as Mayor of Frankfort for a few years during his time living in Frankfort.
Dick enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting with his family and was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Twins fan. He loved playing horseshoes and slow pitch softball. However, his greatest enjoyment was his family and spending time with them. He always let them know how proud he was of them.
Dick is survived by his loving wife and children. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and a brother as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Marlys (Aaker) Mathews.
