Obituary for Dr. Russell Paul Pavich

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Russell Paul Pavich, M.D. on Friday, June 10, 2022 at the age of 70. Russell was born on January 24, 1952 and was a native and longtime resident of Eunice, La.

Russell was a Eunice High School graduate of 1970 and a member of the Eunice High Band, playing trumpet and bugle. He was also a member of the Boy Scouts of America, achieving the highest rank of Eagle Scout, and proudly saw his son Lazo achieve the same honor.

Russell, known as Doc or Roscoe to friends and community, graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Zoology and Pre Med from McNeese University. He then graduated from LSU School of Medicine in 1978. He was a commissioned officer of the U.S. Public Health Service from 1979 to 1980, leaving with an Honorable Discharge as a Senior Assistant Surgeon and achieving the rank of Lieutenant in the Navy.
Russell started his medical practice in Landrum, South Carolina and Tryon, North Carolina in 1980, and then moved on to Eunice and Mamou in 1981 until present day. Russell worked as the Medical Director of the Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Care Department in Mamou, and later worked in Crowley and Lafayette in their Hyperbaric Units.

Russell served one term as parish police juror in 1981. In 1996, he was elected Coroner of St. Landry Parish and has served in that capacity for the last 26 years with great commitment and dedication to the rigors and demands of the office, working with a great team that has remained with him until present, Mark Dupont, Toby Savoy, Jessica Soileau and his dedicated secretary, Amanda Daville.

Russell's devotion to his country and his passion for politics was known by all who knew him. He was a long time member of the parish Republican Party, as well as a member of the Louisiana Republican State Central Committee. He represented his party as a chosen elector for two Republican presidential candidates. He tirelessly dedicated his time and knowledge to all things concerning local, state and national politics.

Russell is survived by his devoted wife of 36 years, Myra, and his beloved son, Lazo Nicola Pavich; his sisters, Onesia Pavich and Michelle Pavich; brothers-in-law, James Arceneaux (wife Sunny), Anthony Arceneaux (wife Jennifer and Glenn Guidry; sisters-in-law, Sheila Ramagos and Lynn Pavich; nieces, Kadie Fabre (husband James), Megan Arceneaux (wife Ashley), Lora Pierce (husband Kris), Monica Pavich (husband Jeremy); nephews, Kyle Guidry, Stefan Pavich, Nico Pavich (wife Hannah); great nieces, Madisen Fabre, Baylie Fabre, Jailyn Pavich, Isabella Faulk, Molly Pierce; great nephews, Bryce Pavich, Ethan Pavich, Reese Pavich, Gavin Pavich and Hayes Pierce.

He was the son-in-law of Denise Arceneaux and the late Luther Henry "Hawk" Arceneaux of Roberts Cove.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, Louis N and Lela Mae Bertrand Pavich; his brother, Louis 'Nick" Pavich; his sister-in-law, Mona Arceneaux Guidry; his brother-in-law, Kenneth "Rock" Ramagos.

Pallbearers will be Shane Bertrand, Brandon Soileau, Mark Dupont, James Arceneaux, Anthony Arceneaux and Kyle Guidry. Honorary pallbearers are Lazo Pavich, Toby Savoy, Robbie Chachere, Dale Soileau and Jim Sterling.

Vocals will be performed by his sister-in-law, Jennifer Arceneaux.

Visitation will be held at Quirk & Son Funeral Home, 121 S. 6th Street, Eunice, La. on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 from 4:00 pm until 9:00 PM and will resume on Wednesday morning at 8:00 AM until time of Services at 11:00 AM at the funeral Home. He will be interred at Maxie Cemetery in Maxie, La following Service.

The family would like to extend a kind thank you to Acadian Ambulance Service personnel and the medical staff at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center, as well as to Dr. Fernando Alemany, for their excellent and compassionate care.
