Clarence Wayne Barnes, 76, of Wilmington, NC, died Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare.

He was born on December 9, 1945, in Kinston, NC, the son of the late James Floyd Barnes and Eureka Kennedy Barnes. Also remembered is a sister, Edna Waters, who precedes him in death.

Surviving is his wife of fifty-two years, Jean Gurganious Barnes; a son, Greg Wayne Barnes and wife Debra of Wilmington; granddaughter, Ashlyn Jade Barnes; a brother, Harold Barnes of Kinston, NC; a sister, Joyce Ferguson of Roanoke, VA; and several nieces and nephews.

Clarence was born in Lenoir County, raised in Duplin County where he graduated from James Kenan High School in 1964. He then served four years in the US Air Force stationed in both Idaho and Germany and later retired from his career with Occidental Chemical. Clarence was an active member of Freedom Baptist Church since 1977.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at Freedom Baptist Church with burial following in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church beginning at 11:00 am. Services will be officiated by Dodd Mays.
