Newspaper death notice reports this is a child of Mr. and Mrs. N. [sic] C. CURLEE, which I believe is Meredith C. Arrie Irene (?) (MOTE) CURLEE, who married 18 JUL 1870 in Russell County, Alabama. Reported age at time of death was 4 years, so if accurate, evidently born about 1881. Died at the family residence on Front Street, between Eighth and Ninth streets. Funeral conducted by Rev. W. A. HUCKABEE. Pallbearers were George H. SMITH, Peyton BROWNING, Charles ALBRECHT, and Charles W. BRASCH.

Record in the sexton's ledger book shows: Marion CURLEE was born in Georgia, died aged 4 years of pneumonia, and was buried 24 MAY 1886 in Section 2, Lot 993, as a resident of Columbus, Georgia. The sexton was Abraham ODOM.

This grave is evidently not identifiably marked. A master list of lot owners for Linwood Cemetery shows Lots 993, 993 1/2 and 963 1/2 in Section 2 were owned by Meredith COLLEE [= CURLEE]; list doesn't report date of sale or price of purchase for lots. Others reported to be here include: Elizabeth "Bettie" (HATLEY) CURLEE, buried 02 OCT 1884 (aged 82 years); a child of Meredith CURLEE, buried 05 JAN 1885 (aged 7 days); Lorena CURLEE, buried 10 NOV 1891 (aged 46 years); Nancy STOCKDALE (born 1877, buried 20 DEC 1911; and Alice (CURLEE) WATTS, buried 28 DEC 1938 (aged 57 years). Reported in 2-993 and 993 1/2: Mollie CURLEE, buried 11 SEP 1875 (age not reported). Persons reported to be in city 2-993 1/2 include: a child of Meredith CURLEE, buried 26 SEP 1874 (age not reported); Nannie CURLEE, buried 20 OCT 1876 (aged 18 years); and Meredith C. CURLEE, buried 18 MAY 1913 (aged 68 years). Persons reported to be in 2-963 1/2 include: a child of Meredith CURLEE, buried 20 AUG 1874 (aged 11 months); and Mrs. Arrie (MOTE) CURLEE, wife of Meredith (APR 1850--15 MAR 1919).

City 2-993, 993 1/2 and 963 1/2 correspond to Lot 137 in Section A of Dolores Autry's "Historic Linwood Cemetery" book (edited by Lea Dowd et al.), Volume 1. Autry reports here: "No evidence of graves." This lot is counter-corner to the fenced DAVIDSON lot (city 2-1017 / Autry A-135), where Leah (CURLEE) DAVIDSON and Mary (CURLEE) HEARN have graves that are not identifiably marked.
