Born July 5, 1916 in Green Sea, Mew was the son of the late James Monroe Mew and Epidell Blanton Mew. Mr. Mew was retired from the Horry County Police Department, where he was a patrol officer with the rank of sergeant.
Mr. Mew was a past chief of police for the City of Loris and also was a past City Council member. He also served in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Mew was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Brookie Blackburn Mew of Loris; a son, Mr. Tommy Mew and his wife, Mildred, of Charleston; a daughter, Mrs. Betty J. Rabon of Goose Creek; a brother, Mr. Billy Mew of Cassilberry, Fla.; three sisters, Mrs. Eula M. Britt of Casar, N.C., Mrs. Shirley Mew of Atlanta, Ga., and Mrs. Doris Tompkins of New London, N.C.; four grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Mr. Mew was predeceased by: three brothers, Liston Mew, Dainta Mew, and Jimmy Mew.
Funeral services were Nov. 29, at the Hardwick Memorial Chapel, with burial in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Rev. Billy Prince officiated.
