Orville proudly served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Germany as part of the US peace-keeping forces after WWII. Orville was a member of the American Legion of St. Nazianz, Post #477. He was deeply honored as a recipient of the Old Glory Honor Flight to Washington DC in 2019.

On July 9, 1955, he married Bernice Riesterer and together they built their home in School Hill.

Orville was a dedicated employee, holding a variety of jobs since age 13. He found his calling as a truck driver for Manitowoc Engineering in 1954. He was their principal driver for crane parts delivery. He enjoyed his time driving, seeing much of the continental US in the process. He retired from Manitowoc Engineering in 1990. Orville and Bernice joined Holy Trinity Parish, School Hill in 1955. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the 1969 Building Committee that oversaw construction of the current church. He was also a founding member of the Men of Holy Trinity, currently the School Hill Athletic Club.

Orville was dedicated to public service, serving more than 30 years as an elected official for the Township of Meeme, first as a Supervisor, then as the Chairman until 1997. His proudest accomplishment was the founding of the town's Recycling Center. He also served on the Manitowoc County Board of Adjustment for 36 years, retiring as Chairperson in 2020 at age 91.

He was a farmer at heart, raising rabbits, pigs, chickens, and cattle on his hobby farm in School Hill. He also enjoyed gardening, hunting, raising fish in his pond, and feeding the wildlife. He was an avid sheepshead and skat player, and enjoyed stamp and coin collecting.
