Jean S. Monk

Jean S. Monk, 83, of Charlevoix, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at the Charlevoix Area Hospital. Jean was born July 28, 1921, in Detroit, the daughter of Leslie and Rena McCleary Prouty. She graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit, and then attended nursing school.

On April 5, 1941, she married Frank Monk in Detroit, Jean was employed as head of maintenance for Farmington Hills Schools, retiring in the mid-1970s. She was a member of the VFW Onaway Post Woman's Auxiliary. Jean has been a resident of Charlevoix for the past 12 years.

She is survived by: her daughters, Janice Sanchez of Rochester Hills, and Marilyn (Richard) Keating of Charlevoix; sons, Tom Monk, and Larry Monk of Las Vegas, NV, and Ed (Brenda) Monk of Bear Lake; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Frank, preceded her in death in 1979. No services are planned at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
