Prosecuting attorney of Holmes County, Attorney-General for the State of Ohio 1863-1865, State Senator of Ohio. In 1887, he was nominated for judge of the supreme court of Ohio by the Democratic party in convention at Cleveland; in 1888, he was again nominated for the same position at the convention held at Dayton.
