David Fisher West, 74, of Pleasant Grove passed away suddenly Monday. August 12, 2002. He was born May 28, 1928 in Pleasant Grove, Utah to Varian White and Edna Binns West. He married Phyllis Garland on June 4, 1953 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
David grew up in Pleasant Grove and graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1946. He served as a missionary in the Great Lakes Mission from 1950-1952. It was during his mission, he baptized his future bride, Phyllis and all her family. David worked for Alpine School District from 1955-1985, mostly as a janitor at Pleasant Grove High School. David is known in the community for his acts of service and his incredible work ethic.
David was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many callings during his life including: two Bishoprics, Stake High Councilor, Ordinance Worker in both Provo and Mt. Timpanogos Temples. High Priest Group Leader and as a missionary with his wife Phyllis in the Albuquerque, New Mexico Mission. David's love of the gospel through missionary work, temple work, gospel study, and service to others will be the legacy he leaves.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis of Pleasant Grove and nine children: Michael (Penny) West, Kevin West, Kim (Debbie) West, Mark (Kayleen) West, Holly (Tim) Beavers, Debra (Bob) Crow; Robin (Mark) Whittle, Lance (Leslie) West, Cindy (James) Mena; 32 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his brother, Varian LaVerl West.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 16, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. in the Pleasant Grove Stake Center, 275 East 500 South, Pleasant Grove. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove and at the church on Friday one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery.
