The Leader - Lewisburg, Ohio - May 17, 1951

Lewisburg lost a well-known businessman Saturday in the death of Edward B. Emrick, 67, who died unexpectedly of a heart attack a few minutes before 10 a.m. while working at the variety store operated by him and Mrs. Emrick for many years. He was a member of the Lewisburg Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Emrick had been afflicted with a heart ailment for seven or eight years, and a recent attack of mumps may have aggravated this condition. However, he seemed in unusually good spirits Saturday before stricken.

Born and reared at Dayton, Mr. Emrick traveled extensively throughout the United States for some years when he was a test driver for the old Dodge Bros. Motor Co.

Nineteen years ago, he and Mrs. Emrick came to Lewisburg to open the variety store and had continued its ownership and operation until his death with an intervening period of 18 months in 1946 and 47. During 16 months of this time they were owners and operators of the Lawnsette, a Route 40 tourist home here. Selling this business, they made a tour to the west coast and upon their return repurchased the variety store.

They were in the variety store business at Eaton for six or seven years before coming to Lewisburg.

Other than Mrs. Emrick, survivors include a sister, Mrs. Bessie Wise of Dayton, and three nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Lewisburg EUB church, with the pastor, the Rev. A. S. Wolfe, officiating. Burial was in Roselawn cemetery. As a mark, of respect, local business places were closed during the hour of the funeral.

Mrs. Emrick said Tuesday that she plans to continue operation of the store.
