Ernest was the son of Benjamin and Mary (nee Kersey) Bucke. He lived at 93 Lee High Road and seems to have to have married in Lewisham in 1896. His father, the Rev. Benjamin Bucke, was the first vicar of Holy Trinity, Glenton Road, Lee, a church newly-built in 1863. (It was damaged by bombing in 1944 and demolished in the 1960's).
