JAMES M. JONES PORTAGE, IN


James M. Jones, age 102, passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2007. He was born on December 21, 1904 in Osawatomie, Kansas the son of Elmer and Nina Jones. Jim proudly served his country as an electrician's mate in the US Navy from 1923-1927 and again from 1943-1945. Jim retired after 30 years working as an electrician for U.S. Steel. Jim was a member of the Lake Station Community Presbyterian Church, Gary Masonic Lodge #677, South Bend Scottish Rite, Orak Shrine and the American Legion Post 279. Jim's greatest joy was bowling. Jim is survived by his loving family; wife Pauline Jones of Portage; daughter Betty Corle of Portage; stepdaughter Lucille (William) Wilkison of Merrillville; step-son Earl (Cherokee) Looney of Garden Grove, CA; eight grandchildren; eight great-granchildren; one great-great grandchild; four step-grandchildren; five step great-granchildren; and other loving family and dear friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Bess Jones; his second wife Lillian Jones; daughter Helen Kinsey and two sisters. A visitation for James Jones will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 W. Old Ridge Road, Hobart with a Masonic Service at 7pm followed by an American Legion Service at 7:15 pm. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, with Rev. Roger Hartzler officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Kouts.
