Evangeline M. Young, age 83, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2006, in Everett.
"Lynn" was born in Albion, Nebraska, on April 3, 1923. She left Nebraska and came west with her family during the depression years while her father searched for work. Eventually settling in Seattle, Washington, during World War II, she met her husband, Randy, who was serving in the United States Navy. After the war, Lynn and Randy built their own home in Brier, Washington, where they lived until their retirement in 1987. Afterward they moved to a home overlooking the water and Hope Island near LaConner, Washington.
Lynn was very involved in the Episcopal Church, acting first as the Sunday School Superintendent for the Church of the Redeemer in Kenmore, Washington, and later in the same capacity for the Episcopal Diocese of Olympia. During that time she was also instrumental in founding the Diocesan church by mail program. As a part of her service in that program she frequently traveled to remote areas in Western Washington, visiting families too distant from a church to attend regular services. She was also a member of the Leadership Training Institute, traveling the western states region to conduct sensitivity training seminars for clergy and church leaders.
Knitting, reading, and gardening were favorite pastimes for Lynn. Living near the tulip fields, she looked forward to each April, to the Tulip Festival in Skagit County. Lynn was well known among her family and friends for knitting indestructible kitchen wash clothes.
Lynn is survived by her son, Arnold Young, of Everett; grandchildren, Elizabeth Wylie, of Walla Walla, Washington, Marianne Young, of Walla Walla, and Rebecca Young, of Everett; and great-grandchildren, Jacob Wylie, and Arianna Wylie, of Walla Walla.
She was a member of St. Aidan's Episcopal Church, Camano Island, Washington, and Trinity Episcopal Church, Everett.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, July 8, 2006, at St. Aidan's Episcopal Church, 1318 E SR 532, Camano Island, WA, 98282, with reception following at the church.
