Mary attended Oberlin College and was an accomplished musician. She taught piano. She was active in several women's clubs including Eastern Star in which she had the chair of Martha. She worked beside her husband in his dry goods store in Kenmore. Mary had a good business sense and was especially adept in buying and selling real estate.


She married Caradoc Rowland Griffiths on 8 October 1911 in Barberton, Summit County, Ohio and they had three children.
