Dawn Kay Awsumb (Norgaard) was born June 3, 1963, in Lake Preston, SD to Willard & Donna (Nedegaard) Norgaard. She attended her twelve years of schooling in Arlington, SD. She went on to achieve her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Human Services from the University of Minnesota Morris. Upon graduation she moved to Fridley, MN and worked for Gateway Foods for a short period of time. She then became Activities Coordinator at Dungarvin Group Homes. She met her husband Pete Awsumb while attending college and they were married May 9, 1987. Dawn & Pete made their residence in Columbia Heights, MN where they lived for 28 years. Dawn & Pete welcomed their son, Zachary Alan on July 31, 1989. Dawn continued to work outside of the home moving on to work as an Activities Coordinator at The Trevilla of Robbinsdale, MN. They welcomed their daughter, Kelsey Kay on May 11, 1993. In 1994 Dawn decided to start Dawns Home Daycare where she guided the lives of many, many children for 22 years. In 2007, they purchased property in Askov, MN where they enjoyed many leisure times with family and friends. They moved permanently to Askov, MN in 2017. Dawn worked for Toby's Restaurant and Bakery in Hinckley, MN as a Baker. Dawn took pride in making hundreds and hundreds of muffins, pastry's, you name it, she made it. Dawn was an avid cook and loved to bake at home. She was well known for her banana bread, chocolate chip cookies, and many, many great meals for everyone. You never left Dawn's house feeling hungry, instead you often felt just the opposite.
Dawn's passion was children and was very excited when her son Zach married Amanda (Genosky) at their home in Askov in 2021. Zach and Amanda have three children, Maverick, Mila & Mac. Dawn cherished her grandchildren whenever possible, and they made her life so full.

Dawn is survived by her Husband Pete Awsumb of Askov, MN; Son Zach (Amanda) Awsumb, Daughter Kelsey Awsumb, Grandchildren Maverick (Keegan) Mila & Mac Awsumb, Brother Jay (Deb) Norgaard, Brother Dirk (Lisa) Norgaard, Brother-in-law Craig Awsumb, Sister-in-law Pat (Mark) Smith, Adoptive Brothers Gary (Deann) Sundberg, Lonnie (Beth) Sundberg. Nieces and Nephews: Angie (Josh) Nixon, Christopher Norgaard, Nikki (Alex) Frost, Rick Bailey, Jenny Bailey, Joe (Heather) Bailey, Josh (Cecilie) Norgaard, Jeremy Norgaard, Jacob Norgaard, Trevor (Brianne) Norgaard, Lane Norgaard, Nathan (Chelsey) Sundberg, Melissa (Ted) Ruml, Jonathan (Chelsey) Sundberg, Tara (Mark) Jensen, Brooke (Nathan) Rozeboom, Bennett Smith, Carter Smith, Makenzie Smith. 26 Great Nieces and Nephews: Kallen, Kollins, Zari, Kyra, Nyla, & Miller Nixon, Elouise & Annelise Norgaard, Blake & Cullen Norgaard, Addie Norgaard, Kyson, Andi, Grace & Aurora Sundberg, Lola, Elijah & Abel Ruml, Lilyahna, Braxton & Kyler Sundberg, Reagan, Jordyn & Maren Jensen, Kade & Aubrey Rozeboom, Benjamin Bailey & Walker Ward.

Dawn was proceeded in death by her Parents, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, and other Loved Ones.
A memorial service will be held for Dawn at 7 pm on Friday, July 15, 2022 at the Methven Funeral Home chapel in Sandstone, MN. Visitation will start at 5 pm and continue until the beginning of the memorial service.
