Virginia Swanson Adams, 88 of Muscatine passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at her home in Muscatine. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at the Snyder and Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Muscatine. Private interment will be held at Aspen Grove Cemetery. Following the service, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Community Room. Visitation will be Friday, July 8, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Virginia. Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.

Virginia Swanson Adams was born April 10, 1934, in Winfield, Iowa. She was the daughter of Ralph and Mazie Ross. Virginia graduated from Winfield High School in 1952. She graduated from the two years Teaching Program at Iowa Wesleyan in Mt. Pleasant. She graduated from the University of Iowa with a BA. She married Donald Swanson in 1954 in Winfield. He died in 2006. She married Everett Adams in 2008. She retired after 33 years of teaching. She taught at Danville, Sperry, Letts and Muscatine Public Schools. Honors received while teaching were Outstanding Educator (Carver Trust), Award for Excellence Carver Trust, four national awards from McDougal Little for Outstanding in "Creative Writing Teacher" and Award of Excellence Student Impact (Award Carver Trust) Governor's Award for Volunteers State of Iowa.

Virginia was a member of the Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Glad Tidings Church, Women of the Moose, Lady Elks, MARSPA, Rhonda Vincent Fan Club and Friends of the Library. She taught Sunday School in the Presbyterian Church, Methodist Church, Glad Tidings Church and active in all three when belonging there.

Virginia will be deeply missed by her husband, Everett of Muscatine; her children, Dan (Jane Ann) Swanson and Kendall (Penny) Swanson; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; step-children, Teresa Riley, Vickie French, Mike Adams, Rick Adams and Roger Adams.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Don Swanson; parents; one sister, Darlene Caparoon Onleaf; one brother, Max (Lucy) Ross; grandson, David Swanson; great grandson, Chase; sister-in-law, Ethel (Dale) Johnson.
